William Edward Petty Hartnell
William Edward Petty Hartnell was a partner in the Hide and Tallow trading firm of McCulloch Hartnell & Co in California from 1822 until its dissolution in 1828. The full story of the partnership is related HERE. He remained in California for the rest of his life and he retained a large number of letters and documents relating to the business which are now held by the Bancroft Library at the Berkeley University of California. Much of this material is available online within the Documentos para la historia de California collection of Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. There are 79 volumes of this collection each containing several hundred images but we have identified the majority relating to William Hartnell and the McCulloch Hartnell & Co business and the following pages contain direct links to the images of these letters and documents.
